Keeping your Generac® Air or Liquid Cooled generator maintained is critical to its performance, especially since you only need it during power outages. Abacus Plumbing’s Certified Generac® Maintenance Technicians and Plans are perfect for homeowners wanting to ensure their investment is maintained up to Generac® standards and to help keep the warranty valid.

Generac® recommends maintenance at least once every two years by a local, Independent Authorized Service Provider such as Abacus Plumbing. However, living in Houston or Austin, Texas with dramatic weather variances including high heat and humidity, cold, heavy rain, ice and even snow can have a significant impact on corrosion of batteries, spark plugs and other key components of your generator. As a result, Abacus Plumbing offers annual maintenance and 24/7 remote monitoring.

While it is not “required” to use certified Generac® maintenance technicians that are employed or IASD’s (Independent Authorized Service Dealers) like Abacus Plumbing, your Warranty is subject to ensuring maintenance records and maintained, as well as requiring an IASD to inspect problems and submit warranty claims on your behalf.

The following information may be found on Generac’s website, owner’s handbook, and warranty documentation. As you will see, it is recommended that you utilize an IASD like Abacus to perform maintenance, as well as helping ensure all parts, warranty issues and even installation or repairs to keep your warranty valid.

Generac will, at its discretion, repair or replace any part(s) which, upon evaluation, inspection and testing by Generac or an Independent Authorized Service Dealer, is found to be defective. Any equipment that the purchaser/owner claims to be defective must be evaluated by an (IASD).

Any and all warranty repairs and/or concerns must be performed and/or addressed by and (IASD). Repairs or diagnostics performed by individuals other than (IASD’s) not authorized in writing by Generac will not be covered.

Proof of performance of all required maintenance must be available.

The following will NOT be covered by the Generac® Warranty (excerpts):

  • Damage/failures caused by operation with improper fuels, speeds, loads or installation other than what’s recommended or specified by Generac Power Systems.
  • Damage to the generator and/or transfer switch due to the use of non-Generac parts and/or equipment, contaminated fuels, oils, coolants/antifreeze or lack of proper fuels, oil or coolants/antifreeze.
  • Products that are modified or altered in a manner not authorized by Generac in writing.
  • Any incidental, consequential or indirect damages caused by defects in materials or workmanship, or any delay in repair or replacement of the defective part(s).

MAINTENANCE:

Regular maintenance will improve performance and extend engine/equipment life. Generac Power Systems, Inc. recommends that all maintenance work be performed by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD). Regular maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emissions control devices and systems may be performed by any repair shop or person of the owner’s choosing. To obtain emissions control warranty service free of charge, the work must be performed by an IASD.

  • Warranty repairs MUST be performed by an Independent Authorized Servicing Dealer.
  • Warranty DOES NOT cover the cost of maintenance or damage due to improper installs.
  • Warranty claims must be submitted through an Independent Authorized Service Dealer (IASD). Generac customer support cannot determine if a failure is covered under the generator's warranty.
  • Once a certified dealer has been contacted, they will inspect the equipment and submit the claim with the required documentation to Generac.

Generac support strongly encourages generator owners to reach out to their local certified service dealer before attempting to replace critical components on their generators. Only certified service dealers that have gone through Generac's training programs can perform warranty service. See My Generator Failed Under Warranty, How Do I Submit a Claim? for more information.

Home standby generators require specific maintenance tasks to be completed at different intervals to ensure proper operation and longevity. Schedule A maintenance refers to a collection of tasks that should be performed every two years or every 200 hours of operation.
